WHEREAS, Sergeant Timothy Simpson was appointed to the Philadelphia Police Department on November 14, 1988; and

WHEREAS, On July 1, 2007 he was assigned to the 24th Police District; and

WHEREAS, On November 17, 2008, at 10:30 p.m. Sergeant Simpson was responding to a priority robbery call near the 3100 block of Aramingo Avenue, when at the intersection of Allegheny and Aramingo Avenues another vehicle, operating at a high rate of speed broadsided Sergeant Simpson's cruiser on its rear passenger side. The impact hurled Sergeant Simpson's vehicle into the corner of a building. Both cars were demolished. After firefighters and paramedics worked feverishly to free him from the crumpled vehicle, Sergeant Simpson was taken to Temple University Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 11:05 p.m.; and

WHEREAS, Sergeant Simpson was a decorated and revered officer, having received a heroism award in April 1994 and four merit awards, in July 1990, November 1990, March 1994, and March 1996, and just hours before his death was honored as supervisor of the month for the 24th Police District; and

WHEREAS, Sergeant Simpson was 46 years old having celebrated his 20th anniversary with the Police Department on November 14, 2008, and

WHEREAS, Sergeant Simpson resided in Holme Circle; and

WHEREAS, Sergeant Simpson is survived by his wife Katherine and children Terry Simpson, Samantha Simpson, Courtney Simpson, Michael Scheiblein and daughter-in-law Jennifer Scheiblein; and

WHEREAS, In recognition of the dedicated service by Sergeant Timothy Simpson and to further memorialize the sacrifice he made by serving and protecting the citizens of Philadelphia; now therefore
