Authorizing the Committee on Legislative Oversight to hold hearings on the status, conditions, operations, and economic factors at the Philadelphia Museum of Art to ensure the future of this City cornerstone as we prepare to welcome the world in 2026.

 

Body

WHEREAS, The Philadelphia Museum of Art is a premier Art Museum in America a source of local pride, and a driver in the Arts and Culture tourism space; and

 

WHEREAS, The City of Philadelphia constructed and owns the main building; and

 

WHEREAS, The City must always pay special attention to the eds and meds sector broadly defined as they are the basis of Philadelphia’s success; and

 

WHEREAS, The Philadelphia Museum of Art serves as the backdrop to everything from Santa to weddings, to Eagles Parades and must be front and center as we welcome the world to share in our civic pride; now, therefore, be it

 

RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That we hereby authorize the Committee on Legislative Oversight to hold hearings with the goals of hearing from workers, union leadership, management, and the board to determine the best way forward for this cultural monument and City treasure.
