Recognizing the Philadelphia Black Women's Health Alliance for their 40 years of service to Philadelphia communities.

WHEREAS, The Philadelphia Black Women's Health Alliance (PBWHA) is a non-profit, community-based health and human services organization; and
WHEREAS, The Philadelphia Black Women's Health Alliance was established by approximately 100 Philadelphia women who attended the First National Conference on Black Women's Health issues in Atlanta, Georgia in 1983; and
WHEREAS, These women recognized that African-American women's voices were not being heard adequately in the Philadelphia health community and as a result the Philadelphia Black Women's Health Project was formed to be that voice; and
WHEREAS, The organization changed its name in 2004, to the Philadelphia Black Women's Health Alliance and is continuing its legacy of speaking for African-American women and other minorities in the health community; and
WHEREAS, The mission of the PBWHA is to improve healthcare outcomes and eliminate and/or reduce health disparities experienced by women of color and their families through advocacy, education, research and support activities, programs and services; and
WHEREAS, The PBWHA is grounded in the principles in value-based principles of diversity, inclusion, empowerment, excellence beyond expectations and the relentless resolve to realize the elimination and/or reduction of health disparities among women of color and their families; and
WHEREAS, The PBWHA is committed to being ethically and morally guided and to be responsive to present and emerging needs of the people that they serve; and
WHEREAS, Philadelphia Black Women's Health Alliance is dedicated to utilizing empowering and self-sustaining approaches to success; and
