Honoring and congratulating the Champions of the Week, the student and faculty participants of The Philly Service Award of 2023, a high school community service project competition promoting civic involvement, community engagement, and public service.

Body
WHEREAS, The Philly Service Award is a city-wide high school competition focused on championing community service projects led by Philadelphia's promising students; and

WHEREAS, This year, 63 schools participated in the Philly Service Award. Eligible only to Philadelphia schools, the Philly Service Award rewards students with big goals for the city of Philadelphia grants to propel change in their communities; and

WHEREAS, The Philly Service Award recognizes that Philadelphia's youth, with the right resources and infrastructure, are capable of making truly monumental change. The Philly Service Award helps young people direct time, energy, and capital towards the issues they are most familiar with; and

WHEREAS, The Philly Service Award saw applicants from every Councilmanic district. In all, the 63 schools participating will be completing over 100 projects in every corner of the city of Philadelphia; and

WHEREAS, The award offers the chance to compete against all Philadelphia high schools for a $20,000 top prize and $10,000 runner up prizes. There are over $100,000 in prizes awarded total, with many schools earning up to $1,000 to complete their service projects. Additionally, the Philly Service Award provides up to $1,000 for teachers participating in their wish list fulfillment program; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That we hereby honor and congratulate the Champions of the Week, the student and faculty participants of The Philly Service Award of 2023, a high school community service project competition promoting civic involvement, community engagement, and public service.
