WHEREAS, The Orchestra’s unmistakable “Philadelphia Sound” has become synonymous with musical excellence, earning international acclaim and elevating the city’s reputation on the world stage through historic recordings, global tours, and cultural diplomacy that have connected Philadelphia to audiences across continents; and
WHEREAS, Beyond the concert hall, the Philadelphia Orchestra has demonstrated a deep and abiding commitment to the people of this city through robust education and community engagement programs, bringing music into schools, neighborhoods, public spaces, and community institutions, and ensuring that the transformative power of music is accessible to Philadelphians of all ages and backgrounds; and
WHEREAS, Through its longstanding home in Philadelphia and its current residence at the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts, the Orchestra has contributed not only to the city’s cultural vitality but also to its economic life, tourism, and civic identity, serving as a symbol of Philadelphia’s resilience, creativity, and shared pride; and
WHEREAS, The Council of the City of Philadelphia recognizes the Philadelphia Orchestra as a treasured civic institution whose legacy reflects the city’s highest aspirations and whose future continues to inspire creativity, unity, and excellence; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, THAT THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA. Hereby recognizes and honors the Philadelphia Orchestra on the occasion of its 125th Anniversary, and extends its profound gratitude for the Orchestra’s enduring contributions to the cultural, educational, and civic life of Philadelphia, celebrating a legacy that enriches our city and resonates around the world.
