Title
Authorizing the Committee on Law and Government to investigate the City's lack of participation in the TransitChek program which would permit City employees to purchase vouchers for public transportation through pre-tax payroll deductions.
Body
WHEREAS,      TransitChek is a program authorized under the Internal Revenue Code that reduces employees' commuting costs by permitting employees to purchase vouchers for public transportation through pre-tax payroll deductions; and

WHEREAS,       The TransitChek program not only provides a financial benefit to employees, but more importantly, encourages employees to commute to work using mass transit rather than automobiles; and

WHEREAS,      The City of Philadelphia, as an employer, is eligible to participate in the TransitChek program, but does not do so; and

WHEREAS,      The City of Philadelphia should be doing everything possible to encourage the use of mass transit; now therefore

RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That the Committee on Law and Government is hereby authorized to conduct hearings to investigate the City's failure to participate in the TransitChek program.
