Honoring and congratulating The Mathematics, Civics and Sciences Charter School Boys Basketball team, on their successful 2019-2020 season and overall 24-5 record in the Philadelphia Public League boys basketball championships.

WHEREAS, The Math, Civics and Sciences basketball team is led by the MCS Dean of Students Lonnie Diggs; and
WHEREAS, Players Nayeem Johnson, Hymid Snead, Jabarr Slaughter, Marcus Middleton, Niaeem Edwards, Nisine Poplar, Nadir Barron, Jeff King III, Tayshon Nixon, Mohamed Sesay, Zakee Fleming, Tvon Jones, Bocar Semega, Naadhir Wood, Darryon Rescott, Vernon Tolbert Jr, showed determination, strength, and skill to become Philadelphia Public League champions; and
WHEREAS, The team has ranked third overall in the Philadelphia Public A conference and second in the PA Class AA. MCS is ranked 8th overall in Pennsylvania, 1st overall in PA division AA, and 9th in Philadelphia; and
WHEREAS, MCS worked to defeat rival teams like Simon Gratz twice, once in overtime with a buzzer shot in overtime and again in the Public League championship, both with fast-paced action with reliance on MCS's players' incredible points per game percentage; and
WHEREAS, Player Nisine "Wooga" Poplar helped lead the team with a 21.2 average points per game, 5 average rebounds per game, and 3 average assists per game. Poplar has been called Philadelphia's most intriguing college basketball prospect with his history as a North Philly native, growing up playing in recreation languages, he received offers from several universities including St. Josephs, University of Kentucky, and Temple University. Poplar was an integral part of MCS's PIAA Class 2A state title in March 2019; and
