Title
Honoring the United Parents Against Lead for their efforts to end the threat of lead poisoning and other environmental hazards to children.
Body
      WHEREAS, United Parents Against Lead is a national networking organization of and for parents of lead poisoned children working to end the continuing threat of lead poisoning and other environmental hazards through education, advocacy, and resource referral; and
 
WHEREAS, Founded in 1994 at the 2nd National Conference to End Childhood Lead Poisoning, United Parents Against Lead is committed, first and foremost, to insuring the basic right of all children to live in a safe and health environment; and
 
WHEREAS, United Parents Against Lead knows firsthand the effects of lead poisoning and the irreparable damage and suffering caused by this preventable epidemic and assists parents in organizing chapters in local and state communities and is committed to assisting affected families; and
 
WHEREAS, Accurate information is a crucial element in the campaign to eliminate lead poisoning, United Parents Against Lead promotes proactive steps to prevent children's exposure to lead and early intervention for affected youth; and
 
WHEREAS, United Parents Against Lead advocates that parents have the responsibility to bring their children's voices and experiences into the national dialogue and remind participants that children's health and safety is fundamentally everyone's responsibility; now therefore
 
RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That we hereby honor the United Parents Against Lead for their efforts to end the threat of lead poisoning and other environmental hazards to children.
 
FURTHER RESOLVED, That an Engrossed copy of this resolution be presented to Vanessa Williams of United Parents Against Lead as evidence of the sincere sentiments of this legislative body.
