WHEREAS, Don Cannon has been a leading voice in the Philadelphia radio market at WIBG, WIP, WFIL, WIFI92, SUNNY 1O4, and WOGL OLDIES 98 for over thirty-five years; and
 
WHEREAS, Don Cannon has lent his voice and celebrity status to benefit numerous charitable organizations in the Delaware Valley; and
 
WHEREAS, Don Cannon has been a dedicated supporter of charities such as, Easter Seals, the Arthritis Foundation, and the Leukemia Society; and
 
WHEREAS, Don Cannon once spent 99 hours on the air to benefit a food drive for the needy on behalf of the Cardinal's Commission on Human Relations; and
 
WHEREAS, Don Cannon started The Don Cannon Variety Club Tournament of Champions, an annual golf event which raises an extraordinary amount of money each year benefiting handicapped children; and
 
WHEREAS, Don Cannon and the then current Mayor co-hosted the annual City Hall Gala to raise funds for the restoration of historic City Hall; and
 
WHEREAS, Don Cannon was the voice of the radio while Rocky Balboa trained for his big fight in the first Rocky movie; now therefore
 
RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That City Council honors and thanks Radio Personality Don Cannon on his retirement for his important contributions and accomplishments; and
 
FURTHER RESOLVED, That an Engrossed copy of this resolution be prepared and presented to Don Cannon as the sincere sentiment of this legislative body.
