Honoring and congratulating Champion of the Week, Tina Sloan Green and the Eyekonz Lacrosse team, for being the first Philadelphian and all-black team to participate in the World Lacrosse tournament this year.

WHEREAS, Tina Sloan Green is co-founder and president of the Black Women in Sport Foundation, founded in 1992, and has served as a mentor to many including Eyekonz founder Jazmin Smith; and
WHEREAS, Professor Sloan Green has the distinction of being the first African-American head coach in the history of women's intercollegiate lacrosse when she served as head coach of the Temple University Women's Lacrosse Team from 1973-1992; and
WHEREAS, Professor Sloan Green was inducted into the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association's (IWLCA) first Hall of Fame class in 2017, following this The Tina Sloan Green Award was created by the IWLCA's Board of Directors in April 2021 based on a recommendation from the association's Racial Equity Task Force; and
WHEREAS, Professor Sloan Green helped coach Eyekonz Lacrosse team to the World Lacrosse Tournament which currently has 73 member-National Governing Bodies and holds five World Championships; and
WHEREAS, Professor Sloan Green has co-authored books, Black Women in Sport and Modern Women's Lacrosse, and has written chapters in Racism in College Athletics, Basketball Jones, and Diversity and Social justice in College Sports-Sports Management and the Student-Athlete; and
WHEREAS, Eyekonz is the first Philadelphia and first all-black team to compete at the highest level of competition among 5 to 18 year old women and uses field hockey and lacrosse as a tool to teach life lessons like hard work, sportsmanship, self-discipline, healthy self-esteem, and coping with adversity; now, therefore, be it
