Honoring the Philadelphia Tennis Club for being the oldest Black-owned tennis club in the Country.

 

Body

WHEREAS, The City Council of Philadelphia takes great pleasure in recognizing organizations

that, contribute in a meaningful way to diversity, inclusion, and the wellbeing of their communities throughout the City of Philadelphia; and

 

WHEREAS, Founded in 1959, the Philadelphia Tennis Club is the oldest Black-owned tennis club in the nation and a hub for community recreation and fellowship; and

 

WHEREAS, The Philadelphia Tennis Club is a member of the American Tennis Association,

United States Tennis Association, and the Penn Area Neighborhood Association; and

 

WHEREAS, Based in Germantown, the Philadelphia Tennis Club also provides tennis instruction to aid players in enjoying the sport and continuing “the quest for grassroots tennis participation”; and

 

WHEREAS, The Philadelphia Tennis hosts recurring social events including mixed double tennis matches, Friday night lights, ladies’ social play night, and men’s social play night; and

 

WHEREAS, In all that they do, they contribute greatly to our community and the City of Philadelphia. Such organizations are integral to the functioning and wholesomeness of our City. Consequently, their services are highly indispensable; now, therefore, be it

 

RESOLVED, THAT THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, Honors the Philadelphia Tennis Club for being the oldest Black-owned tennis club in the country.
