Honoring and commending The Ben Franklin Coin Club of Philadelphia on the occasion of its 50TH Anniversary.
Body
WHEREAS, The Ben Franklin Coin Club was founded on May 2, 1959.  The first meeting was held in the Old Philadelphia National Bank Building located at the intersection of Erie and Torresdale Avenues; and
 
WHEREAS, The Ben Franklin Coin Club is one of the preeminent numismatic-based educational and social organizations in the country; an alliance of kindred spirits banded together to derive greater benefits and pleasure from their important and inspirational avocation; and
 
WHEREAS, The Ben Franklin Coin Club engages in outreach to encourage and educate people to study, collect, and appreciate money and related items, and its role in history, in society, and in the future; and
 
WHEREAS, Philadelphia is a natural setting for coin collectors.  The Philadelphia Mint, one of four minting facilities in the country, was the first federal building authorized by Congress in 1792; and
 
WHEREAS, The Ben Franklin Coin Club presently meets on the first Wednesday of every month at the Fox Chase United Methodist Church; and
 
WHEREAS, The Ben Franklin Coin Club also engages in philanthropic activities, donating money to the National Korean War Memorial, in Washington, D.C., and more recently, collecting funds to aid the victims of Hurricane Katrina.
 
BE IT RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, that it honors and commends the Ben Franklin Coin Club of Philadelphia on the occasion of its 50th Anniversary.
 
FURTHER RESOLVED, That an Engrossed copy of this resolution be presented to the Ben Franklin Coin Club of Philadelphia as further evidence of the sincere admiration and appreciation of this legislative body.
