Honoring and celebrating the Philadelphia Chapter of the Guardian Civic League for its fifty-four years of service to minority police officers and its commitment to fostering relationships with law enforcement officers and the communities they protect and serve.
Body
WHEREAS, The Guardian Civic League of Philadelphia, the local chapter of The National Black Police Association, was established in 1956 for the purpose of fostering relationships with the members of the Philadelphia police department and the minority communities in which they serve; and
WHEREAS, The Guardian Civic League is dedicated to improving the moral, civic and social well being of the community by ensuring accountability of police officers and community members. The league is also committed to ensuring that the minority community receives fair and equal treatment, upward mobility for officers and maintaining a relationship with the community through outreach initiatives; and
WHEREAS, The league has also developed and implemented various programs throughout the City, which are today benefiting both minority and low-income Philadelphians. Some of these efforts have included the creation of after school jobs for youth, working with community based organizations to eradicate crime, and hosting informational and study sessions for potential police recruits; and
WHEREAS, The Guardian Civic League has been gaining more momentum in the Philadelphia area via its community-oriented programming and has received numerous new requests for their services from both adults and youth. The League remains steadfast in its commitment to help today's youth as they are the key and hope to a better tomorrow; now therefore
RESOLVED, BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF PHILADELPHIA, That it hereby honors and celebrates the Philadelphia Chapter of the Guardian Civic League for its fifty-four years of service to minority police officers and its commitment to fostering relationships with law enforcement off...
