Title
Supporting FCC action to assure improved Public Safety Communications for the City of Philadelphia.
Body
WHEREAS, Public sentiment overwhelmingly supports secure, dependable communications for our public safety personnel and public safety first responders; and
 
WHEREAS, Reliability of our public safety communications system is in jeopardy due to interference from other users licensed by the FCC on adjacent and interleaved spectrum; and
 
WHEREAS, The FCC currently has before it, “the Consensus Plan,” endorsed by all leading public safety organizations, which proposes a comprehensive, long-term solution to the interference currently plaguing public safety communications systems; and
 
WHEREAS, The “Consensus Plan” will resolve the interference problem without any expenditures of public funds and will provide additional spectrum that will be of immense value to public safety agencies; now therefore
 
RESOLVED, THAT THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY PHILADELPHIA, Supports FCC action to adopt the “Consensus Plan” in order to virtually eliminate interference caused to public safety systems.
 
FURTHER RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be sent to FCC Chairman Michael Powell and FCC Commissioners Kevin Martin, Kathleen Abernathy, Jonathan Adelstein and Michael Copps as evidence of the sincere sentiments of this legislative body.
