Recognizing and Honoring the Smedley Bulldog Blitz Cheerleaders as the First Philadelphia Public Elementary School to Compete at the UCA Nationals

WHEREAS, The Smedley Bulldog Blitz cheerleaders, representing Mastery Charter School at Smedley Elementary, have earned the distinction of becoming the first inner-city public elementary school from Philadelphia to qualify for and compete in the 2026 Universal Cheerleaders Association (UCA) Nationals in Florida; and

WHEREAS, This team of 22 dedicated cheerleaders, ranging in age from approximately six to twelve years old, exemplifies extraordinary commitment, perseverance, teamwork, and excellence by training rigorously through countless hours of practice and preparation, promoting school spirit and unity while encouraging communication, leadership, and fun among students; and

WHEREAS, Founded as an after-school program in 2022, the team has quickly grown into a competitive squad that has achieved multiple regional and national victories, including four 1st Place wins, a 2nd Place finish, a perfect, deduction-free performance known as a "Hit Zero," and their second National Title at the Hershey-AmeriCherr National Championship, distinguishing themselves among top youth cheer teams from across the country; and

WHEREAS, Guided by coaches Solange Mota and Ana Rosario, the team has cultivated leadership, mentorship, and personal growth through programs that strengthen bonds among students, while representing predominantly Black and Latino youth from the Frankford section of Philadelphia and inspiring the community with their dedication and success; and

WHEREAS, In order to reach the national stage, the team competed in regional competitions, demonstrated outstanding performance and spirit, and overcame financial challenges through months of fundraising and a $30,000 grant to support their trip to Florida for the UCA Nationals; and
