Recognizing and honoring Rodney Moore, former professional welterweight boxing champion on the occasion of his induction into the prestigious New Jersey Boxing Hall of Fame.

WHEREAS, Rodney Moore known as "Rockin" Rodney Moore began boxing at the Philadelphia Athletic League (PAL) in 1983 and had forty-five bouts with an amateur record of forty-three wins and twenty-two knock-outs; and
WHEREAS, "Rockin" Rodney Moore as an amateur won a Pennsylvania State Golden Gloves Championship as well as a Sugar Ray Leonard Golden Gloves Championship; and
WHEREAS, Rodney Moore turned professional in 1986 and was a world class contender for seven years before retiring with a record of fifty-two professional fights, forty-two wins, two draws and twenty-five knockouts; and
WHEREAS, "Rockin" Rodney Moore upon his retirement from the ring founded a non profit organization "Fight to Learn Program" which is an after school and summer program for youth in the City of Philadelphia; and
WHEREAS, Rodney Moore has been lauded for his work with youth with numerous articles in local newspapers and has partnered with institutions and various organizations such as LaSalle University, The Institute for Study of Civic Values and AmeriCore to provide services to youth that will enhance their development in becoming positive and productive citizens of this City and this nation; and
WHEREAS, "Rockin" Rodney Moore is one of three Philadelphia boxers in the last ten years to be inducted into the prestigious New Jersey Boxing Hall of Fame; now therefore
RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADEPHIA, That "Rockin" Rodney Moore is recognized for his accomplishments as a boxer and honored on the occasion of his induction into the prestigious New Jersey Boxing Hall of Fame.
