WHEREAS, After the November 8, 2022, elections, The Democratic Party took control of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for the first time since 2010; and
WHEREAS, State Representative, Joanna McClinton represents the 191st Legislative District which is comprised of both Delaware and Philadelphia counties. Representative McClinton is set to become Speaker of the PA House of Representatives, the first woman and the first black woman to hold that role. She is the first woman to serve as House Democratic Leader, the first woman to serve as Majority Leader, and the first female House Democratic Caucus Chair. Prior to her service in the General Assembly, Rep. McClinton studied political science as well as leadership in global understanding at La Salle University and earned her law degree from Villanova University. After graduating, she worked as an Assistant Defender at the Defender Association of Philadelphia for seven years, rising to be the Asst. Chief of East Zone, and then became Chief Counsel to State Senator Anthony H. Williams where she crafted his legislative agenda; and
WHEREAS, State Representative Jordan Harris represents the 186th Legislative District which is comprised of Grays Ferry and Point Breeze. Prior to being elected to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives, Harris focused on his passion for helping children and young adults as he was appointed as the Executive Director of Philadelphia's Youth Commission where he advised the Mayor, City Council and other key decision-makers on issues relating to the city's youth and young adults.
