Recognizing the Woman's Heart Day Campaign.

WHEREAS, Heart disease is the No. 1 killer of women, and cardiovascular heart disease kills more than half a million women each year; and
 
WHEREAS, Heart disease is regarded primarily as a “man's disease” but is a bigger threat to women because they don't recognize the risk and warning signs; and
 
WHEREAS, The Woman's Heart Day Campaign was created to increase awareness about heart disease as the number one killer of women and to encourage healthy lifestyles; and
 
WHEREAS, The American Heart Association and the Sister to Sister Foundation continue to work to encourage women to have regular heart disease screenings and for those identified at risk, to improve access to treatment and support services; and
 
WHEREAS, From February 12-21, 2003 a series of free heart health screenings will be provided throughout the Greater Philadelphia area; now therefore
 
RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That we hereby congratulate the American Heart Association and the Sister to Sister Foundation on its energetic campaign to save lives through the Woman's Heart Day Campaign.
 
FURTHER RESOLVED, That an Engrossed copy of this resolution be presented to representatives of the Southeastern Pennsylvania Office of the American Heart Association as an expression of the gratitude and sincere respect of this legislative body.
