Honoring and commemorating Philadelphia Print Collaborative for recognizing Philadelphia's prominence as a printmaking center dating back to the 1930's and for creating a consortium of cultural organizations committed to reviving printmaking in Philadelphia.

WHEREAS, Philadelphia has a rich and diverse history in printmaking; and

WHEREAS, This history includes the Graphic Arts Workshop of the Works Progress Administration; the Print Room of the Free Library of Philadelphia with a collection of over 80,000 fine art prints; the historical survey of European and American prints at the Philadelphia Museum of Art; long-standing print organizations like the The Print Center and Brandywine Workshop; and, individual artists like Dox Thrash and other prominent printmakers associated with the Samuel S. Fleisher Art Memorial, as well as current explorations in digital prints at Drexel University and Silicon Gallery; and

WHEREAS, These artists and others are being showcased by the Philadelphia Print Collaborative in the festival, "Celebrating Prints and Printmaking: In Homage to Dox Thrash" which is composed of over 56 organizations, including galleries, museums, arts organizations, schools, and municipal programs in the Delaware Valley; and

WHEREAS, "Celebrating Prints" will present over 80 exhibitions and programs beginning on November 2 and ending on December 14 at locations such as The Moore College of Art and Design, the Taller Puertorriqueno, and several other arts venues in greater Philadelphia, now therefore

RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That we hereby honor and commemorate Philadelphia Print Collaborative for recognizing Philadelphia as a pioneer in the art of printmaking and for reviving Philadelphia's important place within our country's artistic community;
