Mourning the loss of Tug McGraw.

WHEREAS, Tug McGraw recently passed away in Nashville Tennessee; and
 
WHEREAS, The motto of Tug McGraw, “You Gotta Believe” made him a symbol of hope and optimism to Mets and Phillies fans and baseball lovers; and
 
WHEREAS, The image of Tug McGraw dancing on the mound following the final pitch of the Phillies 1980 World Series victory is rightly considered to be one of the greatest moments in Philadelphia Sports history; and
 
WHEREAS, McGraw made his mark in postseason play, winning a championship with the 1969 New York Mets and the 1980 Philadelphia Phillies; and
 
WHEREAS, McGraw posted a 2.24 ERA in 26 playoff and World Series games and pitched in all five of the league championship games against Houston in 1980; and
 
WHEREAS, McGraw finished his career with a 96-92 record, a 3.14 ERA and 180 saves; now therefore
 
RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That we mourn the loss of Tug McGraw; and
 
FURTHER RESOLVED, That we remember the lasting and positive impact that Tug McGraw had on Philadelphia and baseball.
