Authorizing the Committee on Commerce and Economic Development to hold hearings to inquire and investigate the missions, agreements, funding, policies, structure, business plans, operating and capital budgets, coordination efforts and effectiveness of various economic development departments, authorities and agencies operating in the City of Philadelphia.
Body
WHEREAS, In order to ensure continued growth and economic stability, the City of Philadelphia must work to create new jobs, attract businesses and residents, maximize City revenues and minimize wasteful spending; and
WHEREAS, As set forth in, but not limited to Exhibit "A" to this Resolution, various economic development departments, authorities and agencies have been established to further the City's goals of strengthening the local economy; and
WHEREAS, Many of these economic development departments, authorities and agencies receive funding from the City of Philadelphia; and
WHEREAS, Cooperation between these departments, authorities and agencies is critical to accomplish maximum growth and economic development, while at the same time minimizing wasteful spending; and
WHEREAS, As Philadelphia's principal oversight body, City Council has a duty to investigate the total scope and nature of the various departments, authorities and agencies and to inquire into their current missions, agreements, funding, policies, structure, business plans, co-ordination efforts and effectiveness and to ensure that the City's economic development goals are met.
RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That the Committee on Commerce and Economic Development is hereby authorized to hold hearings to examine the missions, agreements, funding, operating and capital budgets, concession agreements, policies, structure, business plans, co-ordination efforts and any other relevant information of various economic development departments, authorities and agencies operating in the City of Philadelphi...
