Recognizing and honoring February 20, 2026, as "Love Your Pet Day" in the City of Philadelphia.

WHEREAS, National Love Your Pet Day is observed annually on February 20th as a special occasion dedicated to celebrating the bond between humans and their beloved pets; and
WHEREAS, Approximately 90.5 million families across the United States own a pet, including dogs, cats, birds, reptiles, fish, and other companion animals, reflecting the significant role pets play in households and communities nationwide; and
WHEREAS, Pets offer companionship, comfort, loyalty, and unconditional love, and studies have shown that time spent with animals can reduce stress, lower blood pressure, and improve overall emotional well-being; and
WHEREAS, Pets have been companions to humans for thousands of years, with evidence of dog domestication dating back approximately 11,000 years, cats living alongside farming communities roughly 8,000 years ago, and other animals such as parrots and small mammals becoming cherished companions across cultures and centuries; and
WHEREAS, In the City of Philadelphia, pets are valued members of families and neighborhoods, contributing to stronger communities by encouraging outdoor activity, social interaction, and responsible care; and
WHEREAS, National Love Your Pet Day provides an opportunity for residents to spend quality time with their pets through activities such as walking, playing, grooming, training, and simply sharing companionship; and
WHEREAS, This day also encourages Philadelphians to support local animal shelters, rescue organizations, and veterinary professionals through donations, volunteerism, and adoption, helping ensure that all animals are treated with compassion and care; and
