Title
Urging the Mayor to immediately take all necessary steps to provide continuing health and prescription benefits to spouses and dependents of non-represented employees who die while still working for the City after reaching retirement age.
Body
WHEREAS, For five years after retirement, City employees continue to receive health and prescription coverage for themselves, their spouses and dependents; and

WHEREAS, This coverage for spouses and dependents continues for the full five years even if the retired employee does not survive for the entire period; and

WHEREAS, Spouses and dependents of employees who die while still working for the City after retirement age receive no City-paid coverage whatever; and

WHEREAS, The disparate treatment in the provision of health benefits for spouses and dependents of working retirement-eligible employees as opposed to those who actually retired is unfair; now therefore

RESOLVED, THAT THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, Urges the Mayor to immediately take all necessary steps to provide continuing health and prescription benefits to spouses and dependents of non-represented employees who die while still working for the City after reaching retirement age.
