Honoring Gwendolyn Schell for being a pillar in the community, and her exemplary work throughout the city of Philadelphia, and leadership among women.
Body
WHEREAS, Gwendolyn was born August 22, 1957, one of twelve children, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. With nine grandchildren and four great- grandchildren, she is referred to as the “ Glue” of her family; and
WHEREAS, Gwendolyn attended Germantown High School. Eventually she would withdraw from the school but would still receive her General Education Department Diploma. Gwendolyn attended secretarial classes at North City Congress and then attended leadership and program math classes at the Internal Revenue Service, where she was employed for eight years; and
WHEREAS, Gwendolyn has been an instrumental and active member in the community. She has participated in numerous food giveaways, as well as being a leader in the Happy Hollow Playground, Where she is on the Advisory Board’s revitalization project. She has worked with hundreds of people throughout the community and has been a staple throughout local neighborhoods; and
WHEREAS, Gwendolyn Schell has demonstrated impressive tenacity, resilience, and a drive to succeed, which was also instrumental in her overcoming substance abuse and maintaining her sobriety for the past 16 years. Through her faith, she has transformed her life into an excellent example of what can be accomplished with hard work and determination; Gwendolyn is also a member and a Deacon at Germantown Seven Day Adventists church; and
WHEREAS, Gwendolyn has been a 13th Ward Committee Member for the last four years. Ms. Schell has also served as its Executive Secretary; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA That we recognize and honor Gwendolyn Schell for Women’s History Month.
FURTHER RESOLVED, That an Engrossed copy of the resolution be presented to Gwendolyn Schell as evidence of the gratitude of this legislative body.
