Recognizing and congratulating the Champion of the Week, 5th Grader Emily Enscore, for her work raising money for Project HOME to help end cycles of poverty and homelessness in Philadelphia, a reminder to all of us that little Philadelphians can do big things.

 

Body

WHEREAS, Emily Enscore is a Spring Garden resident and 5th Grade student in the City of Philadelphia; and

 

WHEREAS, Emily was inspired to raise money for Project HOME by a writing prompt in her 4th grade year. The assignment, to craft a persuasive letter on an issue personally significant to them, garnered topics such as littering, climate change, and homelessness, which Emily chose; and

 

WHEREAS, Emily recognized the wide ranging set of impacts homelessness has on Philadelphians. One reason “we need to provide housing to people suffering from homelessness is that when people live outside, it damages their health that could cause a lot of diseases like COVID-19, the flu, or even frost bite” Emily said in her letter; and

 

WHEREAS, What started as a call to action from community members to raise $500 for our most vulnerable neighbors quickly blossomed into a widespread effort that raised over $4,000 for Project HOME; and

 

WHEREAS, She ended her letter with an endearing postscript that reflects the dedication to her community and the power of youth activism: “I am little but I can do big things.” Emily should be commended for her can-do attitude and dedication to progress; now, therefore, be it

 

RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That we recognize and congratulate the Champion of the Week, Emily Enscore, for her work raising money for Project HOME to help end cycles of poverty and homelessness in Philadelphia.

 

FURTHER RESOLVED, That an Engrossed copy be presented to Emily Enscore, further evidencing the sincere admiration and respect of this legislative body.
