Title
Honoring The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia.
Body
WHEREAS, “U.S. News & World Report” has given The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia its #1 ranking for pediatric hospitals in this country.  The Hospital had previously been so named in “Child Magazine,”; and

WHEREAS, The Children's Hospital opened in 1855 as the first hospital devoted exclusively to the care of children.  Ever since then, the physicians and staff have been totally dedicated to the research, training and care which together increase survival rates and create miracles every day; and

WHEREAS,  In research alone, Children's Hospital has a unique breadth of specialized programs, including cardiology, oncology, gastroenterology, plastic surgery, neurosurgery and others.  In addition, the family support offered by physicians and staff has a tremendous effect on the outcome of  severe diseases and often literally brings children “back to life,”; and

WHEREAS, Even today, the Hospital is doing breakthrough research in pediatric HIV and AIDS, fetal surgery and child safety and injury prevention.  Families from all over the world seek care at Children's Hospital because they know that the Hospital offers the very best care and the most compassionate support in the Country; now therefore

RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That we hereby honor and commend the entire Children's Hospital family for being named the best pediatric hospital in America by “U.S. News & World Report.”  We in this Council certainly concur with that assessment.

FURTHER RESOLVED, That an Engrossed copy of this resolution be presented to Steven M. Altschuler, M.D., President and Chief Executive Officer of Children's Hospital, as evidence of the respect and deep admiration of this legislative body.
