Honoring Glenn Bergman for his outstanding and memorable 11 years of service as the General Manager of the Weavers Way Food Co-op and congratulating him on his new position as Executive Director of Philabundance.

WHEREAS, After eleven years as General Manager of the Weavers Way Food Co-op and helping the region's economy grow through his innovative leadership, Glenn Bergman will be transitioning into a new position as Executive Director of Philabundance, the region's premier organization to combat hunger food insecurity; and
WHEREAS, During his tenure as Weavers Way's General Manager, Glenn Bergman helped expand Weavers Way to 5,200 members and 170 staff and increased annual sales from $4.5 to over $20 million; and
WHEREAS, Under Bergman's leadership Weavers Way grew to be one of the largest independent retailers in Northwest Philadelphia by expanding to include four retail storefronts and two farm locations. Also, under Bergman's direction, Weavers Way Community Programs, (WWCP), the non-profit arm of the Co-op, was created, which teaches children and families the value of living healthy through experiential activities. Most recently, WWCP partnered with Martin Luther King High School to create an urban farming program for students with intellectual disabilities; and
WHEREAS, Bergman's distinct knowledge about co-ops has allowed him to be a part of the boards of national co-op organizations. Collectively these organizations have invested $250,000 in the National Co-operative Bank in an effort to develop more co-ops around the country; and
WHEREAS, After all his hard work and dedication as General Manager of Weavers Way, Bergman will continue to make long-lasting change for his community by helping reduce food insecurity in Philadelphia and the region. In his role as the new Executive Director of Philabundance, Bergman will oversee the provision of food to approximately 75,000 low income residents through 400 member agencies...
