Congratulating Robert L. Archie, Johnny Irizarry and Joseph A. Dworetzky on their Appointment to the Philadelphia School Reform Commission and Recognizing Commission Members Heidi Ramirez and Denise McGregor Armbrister for their Continued Service.

WHEREAS, On April 8, 2009, Robert L. Archie, Jr., and Johnny Irizarry were sworn in as members of the School Reform Commission; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Archie will secede Mrs. Sandra Dungee-Glenn as Commission Chair; and
WHEREAS, Joseph A. Dworetzky was appointed to the Commission and now awaits confirmation by the Pennsylvania State Senate; and
WHEREAS, Mayor Michael A. Nutter administered the oaths of office to Archie and Irizarry saying that he was, "pleased to install strong role models for African-American and Latino males," attending Philadelphia public schools; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Archie, a Philadelphia native who graduated from West Philadelphia High School and later taught math there, has lead a distinguished legal career in the City of Philadelphia for more than thirty years and is now a partner with the law firm of Duane Morris; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Irizarry, an educator and community activist, has served as the Director of the Center for Hispanic Excellence, La Casa Latina at the University of Pennsylvania; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Dworetzky has served as Philadelphia City Solicitor from 1993 to 1996 and is now in private practice with the law firm Hangley Aronchick Segal & Pudlin; and
WHEREAS, Archie, Irizarry and Dworetzky will bring to the School Reform Commission considerable legal and practical experience that will allow it to build on the last six years of improved test scores and guide the Commission as it considers the District's five-year Plan "Imagine 2014" and the FY 2010 Operating Budget; and
WHEREAS, Archie, Irizarry and Dworetzky will join Commission Members Heidi Ramirez and Denise McGregor Armbrister who were previously appointed by Governor Rendell; now therefore, be it,
