Congratulating and honoring the Deborah Grand Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star during Women's History Month for 126 years of women-led service to the City of Philadelphia and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

WHEREAS, In 1900 the Order of Eastern Star was officially founded in Pennsylvania, a fraternal organization consisting of Prince Hall Mason relatives devoted to fraternal love and community service. The Deborah Grand Chapter is the umbrella organization of Eastern Star Chapters across the Commonwealth, comprising of over 50 local chapters across the state; and
WHEREAS, Local Eastern Star chapters from Philadelphia, Pittsburgh and Harrisburg united in 1916 to form the Pennsylvania Grand Chapter Order of Eastern Star known colloquially as The Deborah Grand Chapter; and
WHEREAS, The Order of Eastern Star's mission is to uplift families, mentor young women, support educational initiatives, and strengthen neighborhoods; and
WHEREAS, The Order of Eastern Star uplifts young individuals in Philadelphia by providing scholarships and mentorship to college-bound students; and
WHEREAS, The Deborah Grand Chapter focuses its initiatives on improving outcomes and quality of life for individuals affected by disease, with members actively fundraising for breast cancer research, autism awareness, and diabetes education; and
WHEREAS, As Philadelphia celebrates Women's History Month, the Deborah Grand Chapter stands as a powerful example of the vital role women-led organizations play in strengthening the City's civic and social fabric; and
WHEREAS, For 126 years, the Deborah Grand Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star has embodied the spirit of Sisterly Affection, working to strengthen and uplift the Philadelphia community, and the City is proud to recognize and honor this legacy; now, therefore, be it
