WHEREAS, Scanlon Ice Rink Recreation Center have served their neighborhoods for the better part of four decades.
 
WHEREAS, Scanlon was two of only five ice skating rinks in the City of Philadelphia.
 
WHEREAS, Scanlon was removed from the list of center closings thus creating the sense that it would stay open and available.
 
WHEREAS, Recreation officials have closed Scanlon citing an unforeseen need for repairs.
 
WHEREAS, These surprise closings have dramatically reduced recreation options for the ice skating population of this City; now therefore
 
BE IT RESOLVED, That the City Council calls on the Committee of Recreation to conduct hearings on the closing of Scanlon Ice Rink Recreation Center.
