Honoring E. Steven Collins as a recipient of the 2007 Whitney M. Young Community Empowerment Award and for his tireless dedication to improve the quality of life for the children, youth and families of Philadelphia.

WHEREAS, E. Steven Collins is a lifelong Philadelphian completing his formal education at West Catholic High School and Temple University; and
WHEREAS, For three decades he has contributed to the development of Philadelphia by sparking discussions in his role as Director of Urban Marketing and External Relations for Radio One Incorporated; and
WHEREAS, For the past 29 years of Radio One's history, his show has become the centerpiece of Sunday morning urban talk radio, and has kindled new relationships with numerous local media, civic, and political personalities; and
WHEREAS, E. Steven Collins strives to build strong neighborhoods by strengthening families and civic life which is evident in his work to enlist clergy, labor, and media participation with the successful call of 10,000 Men to action; and
WHEREAS, He has been instrumental in the creation of Philadelphia's Unity Day and also worked to produce the Greek Picnic in Long Island, New York and Philadelphia's Fairmount Park for 15 years; and
WHEREAS, His legacy has been to create a sustainable network of Philadelphians to create a new day in the City by enhancing the community capacity to serve children, youth, and families; and
WHEREAS, Serving as an active volunteer he has been recognized by a variety of organizations for demonstrating his community commitment as a board member of the Ivy Legacy Foundation, Multicultural Affairs Congress, Millions More Movement, Urban League, and Marian Anderson Awards; and
