Title
Authorizing the Committee on Commerce and Economic Development to hold hearings to review the status of neighborhood commercial revitalization in Philadelphia; including a needs assessment of neighborhood commercial corridors and an evaluation of various business district development programs.
Body
WHEREAS, The general purposes of the city's neighborhood commercial revitalization efforts are to create employment opportunities for low and moderate income people, to provide goods or services to low and moderate income neighborhoods, and to prevent or eliminate slum or blight; and
 
WHEREAS, The Department of Commerce, the Philadelphia Commercial Development Corporation, several community development corporations and others provide staff support to business associations, respond to informational requests, city service requests, and individual business complaints to aid in neighborhood business district development; and
 
WHEREAS, These entities also assist in the coordination of City-funded public improvement projects and in the identification and assemblage of vacant properties for that purpose; and
 
WHEREAS, They also assist neighborhood small businesses in obtaining financing for business start-up and expansion from public and private agencies as well as assist individual neighborhood businesses in management, sales promotion, public relations, and inventory; now therefore
 
RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That the Committee on Commerce and Economic Development is hereby authorized to hold hearings to review the status of neighborhood commercial revitalization in Philadelphia including a needs assessment of neighborhood commercial corridors and an evaluation of various business district development programs.
