Recognizing November 4-10, 2001 as CHEMISTRY WEEK in the City of Philadelphia.

      WHEREAS, Through much of the history of our nation the American people have depended on science and technology for prosperity and a brighter future; and
 
      WHEREAS, The science of chemistry, perhaps more than any other body of knowledge, has helped us achieve our modern society; lightening difficult tasks; assuring an abundance of foods; contributing to our homes, clothing, energy supplies, and to our health; and providing myriad new materials for our use on Earth, and in space exploration as well; and
 
WHEREAS, The Philadelphia Section of the American Chemical Society has, with its sister sections, designated November 4-10, 2001, for a nationwide celebration calling attention to past, present, and future contributions of their science.  Special events will be held for their friends and neighbors, teachers, students, and members of the general public; now therefore
 
      RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That we hereby recognize November 4-10, 2001, as CHEMISTRY WEEK in the City of Philadelphia.  We call upon all our citizens to recognize the contributions of chemistry, and wish the chemists and chemical engineers of our community all best auspices in their search for new knowledge that will be of benefit to all peoples of the world.
