Recognizing the achievements of the Hispanic Bar Association of Pennsylvania Legal Education Fund as it celebrates its Fifteenth Annual Scholarship Banquet on November 6, 2002.
Body
WHEREAS, The Hispanic Bar Association (HBA) of Pennsylvania is the only organization that promotes the advancement of Latino attorneys throughout the Delaware Valley; and
 
WHEREAS, As part of its education goal to increase the enrollment of Hispanic students in law schools, the HBA founded a Legal Education Fund established to award educational scholarships to Latino law students;
 
WHEREAS, The HBA's Annual dinner serves the primary purpose of raising scholarship funds through charitable grants and donations; and
 
WHEREAS, This year's honoree is the Honorable John F. Street, Mayor of the City of Philadelphia a supporter of the Hispanic Bar Association who will be recognized by the Hispanic Bar Association of Pennsylvania for his work in helping to improve the many adverse conditions and challenges Latinos face in our city;
 
WHEREAS, This year's gala event will be an especially festive evening featuring a performance by nationally recognized Comedian Carlos Mencia, a headliner in the concert tour The Three Amigos and who has appeared on the HBO Comedy Hour and the Bernie Mac Show; now therefore
 
RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That it hereby recognizes the achievements of the Hispanic Bar Association of Pennsylvania Legal Education Fund and extends its best wishes as it celebrates its Fifteenth Annual Scholarship Banquet on November 6, 2002.
 
FURTHER RESOLVED, That an Engrossed copy of this resolution be presented to Ms. Jessica Diaz, Esquire, President of the Hispanic Bar Association of Pennsylvania Legal Education Fund and banquet honoree, Mayor of the City of Philadelphia John F. Street, as an expression of the sincere sentiments of this legislative body.
