Honoring the legacy of Champion of the week, Norm Eavenson, for an inspiring life and recruiting career of more than 40 years scouting the best young basketball players all across Pennsylvania, New York, D.C., and Baltimore as a Middle Atlantic Recruiter.

WHEREAS, Norm Eavenson was born and raised in Chester, Pennsylvania and developed a lifelong passion for basketball, politics, and music; and
WHEREAS, After receiving his graduate degree in Political Science from Villanova in 1971, Eavenson went on to teach history and social studies for 37 years in the Kennett School District; and
WHEREAS, Norm spent his summer vacations going to basketball tournaments, keeping an eye out for raw talent; and
WHEREAS, While recruiting for Middle Atlantic Recruiting Service for 40 years, he traveled and scouted athletes across Philadelphia, Harrisburg, Pittsburgh, New Haven in the Tri-State Area, all the way to D.C. and Baltimore, Maryland; and
WHEREAS, Norm helped Division 1, 2, and 3 athletes get recruited as he concentrated on all kinds of games and players as a constant friendly face and presence in every gym he scouted in; and
WHEREAS, Norm was passionate about music, television, and politics and collected political buttons, amassing over 25,000 buttons over the years; and
WHEREAS, By recruiting the best talent from high school and helping young athletes find their way to the best schools, Norm helped shaped the lives of many young basketball players and dedicated his life to seeking out new, raw talent; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, THAT THE CITY COUNCIL OF PHILADELPHIA, Hereby honors Norm Eavenson for an inspiring life and recruiting career of more than 40 years scouting for the best young basketball players across Pennsylvania, New York, D.C., and Baltimore as a Middle Atlantic Recruiter.
FURTHER RESOLVED, That an Engrossed copy of this resolution be presented to Norm Eavenson's lifelong friend, Lawrence Otter, as evidence of the sincere sentiments...
