Also naming the unit block of Edgewood Street as "Destiny Smallwood Carr Way," in honor of Destiny Smallwood Carr, to commemorate her long-time dedication and generous public service to her community.

WHEREAS, Destiny Smallwood Carr was a prominent African American business owner in West Philadelphia, and operated several businesses in the area of 60th and Market Streets; and
WHEREAS, Destiny served as Chief Operations Officer for Home Health Care Plus. In this role, Destiny worked in the areas of finance, business planning, mergers and building acquisitions; and
WHEREAS, Prior to her role at Home Health Care Plus, Destiny served as General Manager for Home Care Agency, providing care for individuals needing assistance in their home, and also worked for a certified nursing assistant training program, a chiropractic care facility and an urgent care facility; and
WHEREAS, Along with her accomplished career in the healthcare industry, Destiny was also greatly interested in education. She served as a Board Member with a distinguished record for the former Bok Technical High School in South Philadelphia; and
WHEREAS, Destiny was a staunch advocate for her community, always lending a helpful hand to those who needed her. As an additional way to aide her community, Destiny worked diligently to achieve her goal of bringing affordable rental spaces to the area; and
WHEREAS, Destiny was strong, and struggled for years in her battle with cancer. In April of 2018, Destiny Smallwood Carr lost her battle to cancer at the age of 42, leaving behind family, friends, and the many Philadelphians who had great respect for her; and
WHEREAS, Destiny is survived by her husband, Jerry Carr, who continues her community service work. She will forever be remembered for her commitment to serving her community; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, Hereby also names the unit block of Edgewood Street as "Destiny Smallwood Carr Way...
