Recognizing and commemorating August 26, 2015 as Women's Equality Day in Philadelphia.

WHEREAS, In 1971, a joint Resolution of Congress designated August 26th of each year as Women's Equality Day; and
WHEREAS, Women's Equality Day commemorates women's right to vote through the passage of the 19th Amendment to the United States Constitution on August 26, 1920 and the nationwide demonstration for women's rights and equal opportunities in1970; and
WHEREAS, Every president since 1972 has issued a proclamation for Women's Equality Day to recognize the women of the United States in advancing the country in the fight for equal rights for all citizens regardless of sex; and
WHEREAS, The Council of the City of Philadelphia is pleased to recognize all women who live and work in Philadelphia on the occasion of Women's Equality Day for their importance to the social, economic and political fabric of the City and encourages Philadelphians to support organizations and activities involved in the cause for ensuring equal rights and opportunities for women; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That it hereby recognizes and commemorates August 26, 2015 as Women's Equality Day in Philadelphia.
RESOLVED FURTHER, That an Engrossed copy of this resolution be presented to The Philadelphia Chapter of National Organization for Women (Philadelphia NOW) further evidencing the sincere admiration and respect of this legislative body.
