Title

Honoring and congratulating Philadelphia Native, Kahleah Copper, as the Champion of the Week for being named WNBA Finals MVP and winning the WNBA title.

 

Body

WHEREAS, Copper was born and raised in North Philadelphia where she was ranked the top high school recruit in PA and 18th nationally from Prep Charter in 2012; and

 

WHEREAS, Following graduation, Copper played as a Rutgers Scarlet Knight where she finished the third all-time leading scorer in women’s basketball history; and

 

WHEREAS, In 2016, the Washington Mystics picked her seventh overall in the 2016 WNBA Draft; and

 

WHEREAS, Following her one season in D.C. she moved to Chicago Sky while coaching and practicing with Team USA’s minicamp, continuing to boost her skill and confidence; and


WHEREAS, Kahleah is one of 12 WNBA players to be named to the 2021 All-Star team and the first Philly native All-star since 2006; and

 

WHEREAS,  Copper began to be a regular starter during the 2020 WNBA “Wubble” season and continued to grow her game while staying connected to her North Philly roots, consistently shouting out her home town; and

 

RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That we hereby congratulate and honor Philadelphia Native, Kahleah Copper, as the Champion of the Week for being named WNBA Finals MVP and winning the WNBA title.

 

FURTHER RESOLVED, That an Engrossed copy be presented to Kahleah Copper further evidencing the admiration and respect of this legislative body.
