Honoring and congratulating Champion of the Week, 9-year-old kidpreneur Asil Greer, on being the youngest author in the City of Philadelphia while promoting literacy in underserved Philadelphia communities.

WHEREAS, Asil Greer is the youngest author in Philadelphia who penned a book, “I Can Read, So I Can Lead,” that encourages children to read in order to achieve their goals as well as emphasize leadership and countering bullying; and
WHEREAS, Asil Greer took the lessons of “I Can Read, So I Can Lead” beyond the pages by promoting literacy in underserved Philadelphia communities, including commercials at Smith Memorial Playground and various City transportation centers to champion reading and entrepreneurship; and
WHEREAS, Asil Greer hosts his “Sidewalk Library,” an orange box outside his home where neighborhood children can freely take a book home to read; and
WHEREAS, Asil Greer has participated in the Las Vegas Coast to Coast Children Authors Book Expo Tour to promote his book and literacy among children in underserved communities; and
WHEREAS, Asil Greer is a skilled orator in addition to a skilled writer and community advocate, such as when he came in second place in the 2021 Oratorical Competition at Lotus Academy; and
WHEREAS, Asil Greer has been celebrated for his writing and advocacy by several organizations, including but not limited to the Avant Garde Bookstore in Atlanta Georgia, which awarded him the “Author of the Month Award” for May 2021; and
RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That we hereby congratulate and honor Asil Greer, on being the youngest author in the City of Philadelphia, while promoting literacy in underserved Philadelphia communities.
FURTHER RESOLVED, That an Engrossed copy be presented to Asil Greer, further evidencing the sincere admiration and respect of this legislative body.
