Temporarily remanding certain portions of the public rightof the 500 block of Addison Street to the abutting property owner for religious observance.

WHEREAS, William Penn based the founding of the City of Philadelphia on the premise of religious freedom and tolerance; and
WHEREAS, Certain religious doctrines prohibit believers from transferring objects between the private and public domains on the Sabbath; and
WHEREAS, This Council, under secular law is the steward of the Public Domain of the City of Philadelphia; and
WHEREAS, The Council shares William Penn's desire for the acceptance and affirmation of all religious beliefs; and
WHEREAS, The dictates of the Orthodox interpretation of Jewish law require that this ground be purchased for the symbolic sum of one silver dollar; now therefore
RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That the 500 block of Addison Street abutting B'nai Abraham Synagogue shall pass from the public domain to the private domain from sunset Friday until nightfall Saturday, and for the observance of Yom Kippur for the ceremonial sum of one silver dollar.
