Welcoming the Celtic Football Club to Philadelphia and Honoring Them for a Victorious Season.

WHEREAS, The Celtic Football Club was founded by Brother Walfrid on November 6, 1887 in St Mary's Church Hall. The Club was established to raise money for charity and give the Irish population something which they could feel proud to be a part of; and
WHEREAS, The club quickly became a power within Scottish and European Football and over the years have won the League Championship 39 times, the Scottish Cup 32 times~ the League Cup 12 times, and a highpoint of the Club's history was winning the European Cup in 1967, the first British team to ever do so; and
WHEREAS, In the 2003-2004 Season The Hoops once again claimed the Scottish Premier League Championship, the Scottish Cup, and advanced to the quarterfinals of the UEFA Cup. This was all accomplished while maintaining 25 games undefeated in the League and a record 76 games undefeated at home; and
WHEREAS, The achievements of the Celtic have earned them unparalleled loyalty and admiration among a global base of fans including the Philadelphia Celtic Supporter's Clubs. In 2003, the FIFA Fair Play Award was presented to the worldwide Celtic Supporters for their good-natured sporting friendship and unswerving devotion to their team; now therefore
RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That we hereby welcome The Celtic Football Club and their Supporters to Philadelphia for a friendly match against Manchester United on July 28, 2004.
FURTHER RESOLVED, That an Engrossed copy of this resolution be presented to the Celtic Football Club as evidence of the sincere sentiments of this body in congratulating them on their rich history and a victorious 2003-2004 season.
