WHEREAS, On December 9, 1981 Philadelphia Police Officer Danny Faulkner was shot and killed by Mumia Abu-Jamal; and
 
WHEREAS, Mumia Abu-Jamal was convicted of first degree murder by a jury of his peers in Philadelphia; and
 
WHEREAS,  Mumia Abu-Jamal has exhausted all legal appeals, his conviction being upheld by the Pennsylvania Commonwealth Court of Appeal, the Pennsylvania State Supreme Court, and the United States Supreme Court; and
 
WHEREAS, The government of St. Denis France impertinently dedicated a street to honor the convicted murderer on April 29, 2006; and
 
WHEREAS,  The actions of the government of St. Denis is a deplorable insult and condemnation of the U. S. Judicial System, Philadelphia Police Department, District Attorney of Philadelphia, the citizenry of the City of Philadelphia, and Officer Faulkner's family; now therefore be it
 
RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That this Council calls upon the 108th United States Congress and the Senatorial and Congressional Representatives of the City of Philadelphia to support H. Con. RES. 407.
 
FURTHER RESOLVED, That Engrossed copies of this resolution be presented to the leadership of the Senate and the House of Representatives of the United States, both U.S. Senators of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and the Congressional delegation of the City of Philadelphia as evidence of the sincere sentiments of this legislative body.
