Honoring the Sistahs of the Million Woman March.

WHEREAS, An estimated 2.5 million African-American women gathered in Philadelphia on Saturday, October 25, 1997, as they marched down the Benjamin Franklin Parkway to bring attention to family and community. The mission to advocate for the inclusion, equity and empowerment of African-American women and girls, to promote a positive awareness of African history and culture, to develop knowledge of political and economic forces and their impact on their families; and
WHEREAS, The Sistahs of the Million Woman March, a grass-roots effort spearheaded by a few determined African-American women from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; and
WHEREAS, In spite of overwhelming challenges that worked against the success of organizing such a massive endeavor, the Million Woman March was a resounding success; and
WHEREAS, The Million Woman March received widespread acclaim received national and international attention focused on the city of Philadelphia, the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and African-American women as a whole; and
WHEREAS, Society as a whole benefits when women from all across the world unite to show unity, understanding and womenship; and
WHEREAS, That the City of Philadelphia this day honors the Sistahs of the Million Woman March; and
WHEREAS, The historic Million Woman March is a reflection of the ongoing commitment of African-American women to their individual responsibilities, both in their own families and throughout the world; and

RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That the organizers, of the Sistahs of the Million Woman March be commended for a job well done and for showing the world that when Woman put their minds to it, there is nothing that they cannot accom...
