Honoring Lou Cappiella on his 55 year career of helping people in the Roxborough/Manayunk community and making it a great place to live.
Body
WHEREAS, Mr. Cappiella has been a resident of Manayunk all of his life; and
 
WHEREAS, Mr. Cappiella began his career in 1947 at the old Nice Ball Bearing Company at 30th and Hunting Park Avenue where he worked as a press operator before becoming the union president at 23 years of age; and
 
WHEREAS, Beginning in 1968 when he was appointed associate director of the City's Committee on Aging, he has worked tirelessly for seniors of Philadelphia for the next 12 years including the provision of a senior citizen discount of 20 percent on their gas bills; and
 
WHEREAS, Mr. Cappiella befriended the late Pennsylvania Governor Bob Casey as well as his son and has been supporting their campaigns for over 40 years; and
 
WHEREAS, Mr. Cappiella has been a long time supporter of many local sports teams; and
 
WHEREAS, Mr. Cappiella was president of the Ivy Ridge Panthers and the vice president of the 21st Ward Athletic Association Hall of Fame where he was elected in 2003; and
 
WHEREAS, Mr. Cappiella is a booster for Roman Catholic High School, LaSalle University, Penn Charter,  St. Joseph's Prep, and has even had a high school girl's basketball league named after him; and
 
WHEREAS, Mr. Cappiella has had a long and productive life with many friends and admirers; now therefore
 
RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That Council honors Lou Cappiella on his 55 year career of helping people in the Roxborough/Manayunk community and making it a great place to live.
 
FURTHER RESOLVED, That an Engrossed copy of the resolution be presented to Lou Cappiella as evidence of the sincere sentiments of this Legislative Body.
