Honoring and congratulating Coach Philip Beauchemin and the Overbrook High School Mock Trial Team members on their third victory in the Pennsylvania Bar Association's Mock Trial Competition.

WHEREAS, Overbrook High School captured their third win in the state-wide mock trial competition, their previous two victories occurring in 1997 and 2004; and
WHEREAS, The Overbrook High School Mock Trial Team is led by coach Philip Beauchemin who has held this post for fifteen years and assisted by Josie Hyman, a first-year law student at Temple University and a former member of the Overbrook High School Mock Trial Team; and
WHEREAS, In the championship round of the competition the team acted as the defense in a mock kidnapping case, defeating Greensburg Salem High School of Westmoreland County; and
WHEREAS, This impressive team of students achieved victory in one of the nation's largest state competitions, comprised of 295 teams from 253 schools; and
WHEREAS, Overbrook High School's Mock Trial Team comprised of all rookie participants who had never before taken part in mock trial competition, defeated 294 teams at the state competition based upon their superior poise and articulation, examination of the witness, and persuasiveness; and
WHEREAS, This inspiring team demonstrated profound dedication in their quest to win the state championship through daily practices, held during and after school, including winter and spring breaks; now therefore
RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That we honor and congratulate Coach Philip Beauchemin and the Overbrook High School Mock Trial Team members on their third victory in the Pennsylvania Bar Association's Mock Trial Competition.
FURTHER RESOLVED, That an Engrossed copy of this resolution shall be presented to Philip Beauchemin and to the Overbrook High School Mock Trial Team as testimony to the warmest congratulations of this legislative body.
