The Council of the City of Philadelphia is pleased and proud to join with His Eminence Justin Cardinal Rigali, distinguished clergy, parishioners of Saint Gabriel Parish, and proud past and present staff and students of Saint Gabriel School in celebrating this great school's One Hundredth Anniversary.

WHEREAS, When Saint Gabriel Parish was still in its infancy, the founding pastor, Reverend Patrick J. Mellon realized the necessity for a Christian education for the children of the Grays Ferry area of Philadelphia. Reverend Mellon submitted plans so that a school could be built for the children of Saint Gabriel Parish; and

WHEREAS, On September 8, 1908, Saint Gabriel School officially opened its doors, with the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary. From this time until the present day, Saint Gabriel School has continued to observe the highest standards in providing a rich educational opportunity for its students. Graduates of Saint Gabriel School have gone on to achieve success in numerous professions throughout the City of Philadelphia and the country. Their pride in their alma mater is apparent as they continue to herald the good news of Saint Gabriel School. After one hundred years, Saint Gabriel School continues to be a beacon of hope, a bright light, guiding children of various faiths, from diverse cultures and neighborhoods; and

WHEREAS, Saint Gabriel School continues to meet the challenges of the future, with a high-achieving curriculum and programs designed to engage and peek the interest of all of its students, from Pre-School to grade eight. It serves the needs of the community in numerous ways, including its after-school program and special cooking and art classes.
