Approving the University of Pennsylvania's proposed amendment to its Institutional Development District Master Plan pursuant to Chapter 14-1107(c) of The Philadelphia Code relating to “Zoning and Planning.”
Body
      WHEREAS, By resolution dated May 20, 2009, the City Planning Commission recommended approval of the University of Pennsylvania's proposed amendment to its Institutional Development District Master Plan allowing the University to construct “Penn Park” consisting of athletic fields, tennis courts, restrooms, press box, small utility building, a seasonal air structure, bleacher seating and parking for 339 cars in an area bounded by Walnut Street, the Schuylkill River, South Street and a SEPTA rail line all within the 3rd Council District of the City of Philadelphia (“Proposed Amendment”); and
 
WHEREAS, The site contains a large amount of open area and the Penn Park walkways would be open to the public to walk through and enjoy; and
 
WHEREAS, Chapter 14-1107(c) requires City Council by resolution to approve, disapprove or defer the Proposed Amendment within 45 days of City Planning's recommendation or the Proposed Amendment is presumed approved; now, therefore be it
 
RESOLVED, That Philadelphia City Council approves the Proposed Amendment pursuant to Chapter 14-1107 (c) of The Philadelphia Code.
