Title
Opposing the Proposed Closing of Many Postal Offices in Philadelphia.
Body
WHEREAS, Postal stations located in the City of Philadelphia are active entities providing outstanding service to their postal customers; and
WHEREAS, Philadelphia post offices provide reliable and efficient postal services to these active communities comprised of senior citizens, the disabled, businesses, institutions, and residential neighborhoods; and
WHEREAS, These postal stations are vital components of the physical, economic and social health of the City, and enable walking, and encouraging personal contact; and
 
WHEREAS, Closing these offices will necessitate more automobile trips in Philadelphia and have an immediate, negative impact on the safety, health, and quality of life of residents with particular hardship being put on seniors and low income citizens; and
WHEREAS, Neighborhood residents have made their collective voices heard by placing the United States Postal Service and elected public officials on notice that they strongly oppose the closing of postal stations in Philadelphia; now therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That the City Council of Philadelphia go on record strongly opposing the closing of postal stations in Philadelphia.  
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That the City Council of Philadelphia officially notify the United States Postal Service and members of the Pennsylvania Congressional delegation of its strong objection to the closing of these stations.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That the City of Philadelphia collectively works with the coalition of interested parties to ensure that postal stations remain open to continue to provide reliable and efficient postal services to their respective communities.
