WHEREAS, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority was founded on January 13, 1913, by twenty-two collegiate women at Howard University because these students wanted to use their collective strength to promote academic excellence and to provide assistance to persons in need; and

WHEREAS, The first public act performed by the Delta Founders involved their participation in the Women's Suffrage March in Washington D.C., March 1913; and

WHEREAS, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Incorporated now has over 200,000 predominately African American college educated women in over 900 chapter located in the United States, the Caribbean, Europe and Asia; and

WHEREAS, The Five Point Programmatic Thrust of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Incorporated is Economic Development, Educational Development, International Awareness and Involvement, Physical and Mental Health and Political Awareness and Involvement; and

WHEREAS, The Epsilon Delta Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Incorporated was founded on the campus of Temple University on July 24, 1960 by Eloise Stephens Vaughn, Charolette Stathem Kane, Wanda Long Brantley, Betty F. Polite Simmons, Anita Coleman Short, Geraldine Reed, Gwendolyn White Anthony, Marlene Green Patterson, Diana L. King, Gloria Davis, Josephine Cowen, Janice Williams, Francis L. Wrenn and Joan Logan Pinkey; and

WHEREAS, The Epsilon Delta Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Incorporated will celebrate its 50th Anniversary Friday, October 15 - 17, 2010 on the Campus of Temple University with a plethora of activities including a meet and greet, a visit to the Charles L. Blockson Afro American Collection, a song fest, gala and ecumenical service; and
