Honoring the Urban Affairs Coalition and its 41 years of service to the great citizens of Southeastern Pennsylvania.

WHEREAS, In 1969, Philadelphia's business and community leaders came together to form the Urban Affairs Coalition ("Coalition," previously known as GPUAC) to address inequities in economic access and make a home for grassroots organizations to thrive; and

WHEREAS, In 2010, the Coalition continues to unite government, business, neighborhood, and individual initiatives to improve the quality of life in the region, build wealth in urban communities, and solve emerging issues; and

WHEREAS, The Coalition is currently comprised of more than 80 nonprofit program partners working on diverse issues that affect communities; and

WHEREAS, The Coalition and its program partners serve 85,000 people annually in the Southeast Region of Pennsylvania; and

WHEREAS, The Coalition and its program partners provide children and young adults, who begin life at the bottom of the economic ladder, an opportunity to climb higher; and

WHEREAS, The Coalition and its program partners, assist families in low-income communities in finding bridges to education, jobs, and sound financial advice; and

WHEREAS, The Coalition and its program partners provide minority entrepreneurs with the energy, skill, and ambition, the ability to access capital that can turn a good idea into a successful business; and

WHEREAS, The Coalition and its program partners which are groups of passionate people deeply embedded in their neighborhoods, the opportunity to join forces and form effective networks whose collective voices are impossible to ignore; therefore, be it,

RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That we hereby honor the Urban Affairs Coalition and its 41 years of service to the great citizens of Southeastern Pennsylvania.
